  1. Board of Directors
    The Mendel Center for Biomedical Sciences is governed by a Board of Directors. The members of the Board are Dr Pavlos Neophytou, Dr Constantinos Neophytou, Dr Regas Neophytou, Mr Emilios Mitsingas, Mrs Sofia Georgalla, Mr Kyriacos Antoniou, Mrs Andri Antoniou and Mr Tarik Izbul.
  2. Chairman
    Dr Pavlos Neophytou, M.A., FIBMS, Ph.D., EurProfBiol. He is a Cambridge-trained biomedical scientist with an excellent publication record in autoimmune diabetes and in the genetics of inherited nephropathies. At present he is engaged in epidemiological studies of human papilloma virus (HPV) infection in Cyprus.
  3. Medical Director
    Dr Vasilios Tanos, M.D., Ph.D. He trained at Hadassah Medical Center, Israel, where he still works part-time as a visiting professor of gynecological oncology.
  4. Head of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Study Group
    Dr Arif Albayrak, M.D. He is a specialist obstetrician-gynecologist, who trained at Ege University, Turkey.

    A growing number of Greek- and Turkish-Cypriot scientists and clinicians are becoming associated with the Mendel Center for Biomedical Sciences. These include the following specialties: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Embryology, Surgery, Urology, Dermatology.

  9. Local Bioethics Committee
    The Local Bioethics Committee (LBC) was appointed by the Board of Directors in October 2003. The members of the LBC are Dr Pavlos Neophytou, Dr Vasilios Tanos, Dr Arif Albayrak, Dr Tarik Izbul, Mr Yiannos Georgiades and Mrs Andri Antoniou. The LBC examines bioethical aspects of projects, approves and surveys protocols that are followed during the conduct of research projects and accordingly informs the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee.
