MOLECULAR PATHOLOGY (DNA TESTS)
- HPV DNA Test (Human Papilloma Virus) includes measurement of viral load and high-resolution typing. It is the preferred test for:
- The triage of women with mildly abnormal Pap tests (ASCUS).
- The follow-up of women with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and cancer.
- The screening of all women for preventing cervical cancer.
- HIV DNA (AIDS) is the preferred test for persons who suspect that they may have recently been infected with AIDS (needle stings, contact with possibly contaminated blood and blood products, unprotected sex with an infected person).
- HBV DNA (Hepatitis Beta) includes measurement of viral load and is the preferred test for:
- Persons who suspect that they may have recently been infected with HBV.
- The follow-up of Hepatitis B patients.
- HCV RNA (Hepatitis gamma) includes measurement of viral load and is the preferred test for:
- Persons who suspect that they may have recently been infected with HCV.
- The follow-up of Hepatitis C patients.
- HSV DNA (Herpes 1 &2) includes measurement of viral load and is the preferred test for:
- Persons who suspect that they may have recently been infected with HSV.
- The follow-up of Herpes patients.
- Testing pregnant women, who previously had herpes, so that they can have a natural (vaginal) delivery, if they test HSV negative within a few weeks prior to delivery.
- CMV DNA (Cytomegalovirus) is the preferred test for:
- The follow-up of persons who had a positive CMV antibody test.
- Testing patients suspected of having an active CMV infection.
- Chlamydia DNA includes measurement of bacterial load and is the preferred test for:
- The follow-up of persons who had a previous Chlamydial infection.
- Testing patients suspected of having an active Chlamydial infection (cervicitis, urethritis).
- HLA B27 and/or B51 (arthritis) is used for the determination of genetic predisposition to arthritic disorders
- Paternity Test (DNA) includes the determination of alleles in sufficient genetic loci to give a probability of paternity or non-paternity that exceedes 99%.
- Other DNA Tests: are available upon request. For rare tests, DNA is extracted from a patient's sample at our laboratory and then dispatched for testing abroad.
