The Mendel Center for Biomedical Sciences was established in the Republic of Cyprus in 1998 as a non-profit organisation by a group of eminent Cypriot scientists led by Dr Pavlos Neophytou. It was recognised as a Charity in the Republic of Cyprus in 2001.

Its main aim is the establishment, organisation and management of an educational and research center for the teaching, study, conduct of research and provision of services in biological and medical sciences. Research is being conducted relevant to the pathogenesis, diagnosis, prevention and therapy of disease.

Since 2002 the main project conducted concerns Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and the prevention of cancers (cervical cancer etc.) caused by HPV.

The Mendel Center for Biomedical Sciences is a member of the European Cervical Cancer Association (ECCA).
