Dr Arif Ali Albayrak

Dr. Arif Ali Albayrak was born in Baf (Paphos) in 1956. He is one the last graduates of the Baf Kurtuluş Lycee (1974). He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Ege University as a Medical Doctor in 1980. During the period 1981-1985 he specialized as an obstetrician-gynecologist. He completed his military service in Gülseren Battalion, as a doctor reserve officer. At present, he is working as the leader clinician of a private clinic in Famagusta.

            Dr. Albayrak has been involved in the activities of many social, cultural, political, professional, sportive and artistic institutions and organizations (poetry, music, painting, caricature and photography). For many years, he has worked as a member of the Board of Directors of “Serbest Çalışan Hekimler Birliği” (Union of the Independent Working Doctors) and “Gazimağusa Hekim ve Dişhekimliği Dayanışma Derneği” (Solidarity Association of Famagusta Doctors and Dentists). During 1994-1997, he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Eastern Mediterranean University.

            At present, Dr. Albayrak is the member of the Baf Culture and Solidarity Association (BKDD), the Music Producers Association (MÜDER), the Cyprus Art Association (KSD), the Cyprus Turkish Caricaturists Association (KTKD) and the European Caricaturists Organization (FECO). He is in charge of the Famagusta Municipality Turkish Music Chorus. He is now serving a second term as a member of the Famagusta Municipal Council. He is one of the directors of “Doctors For Cyprus,” the organization of doctors from the two communities. In December 2003 he was elected “Member of Parliament” of “KKTC” and was re-elected in February 2005.

            Dr Albayrak has joined the Faculty of the Mendel Center for Biomedical Sciences in December 2002 as a volunteer specialist obstetrician-gynecologist. He is now the Head of the Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Study Group and he is also a member of the Bioethics Committee of the Mendel Center.
